Most Children from One Mother: 69 Children over 27 Pregnancies

The most children birthed by ONE mother was 69 children over 27 pregnancies: 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets. This was in Russia, in the 1700s.

If you think having two or three kids seems exhausting, then hold onto your seat belt!

One woman, the wife of a 18th century Russian peasant named Feodor Vassilyev, gave birth to 69 children, spanning 27 pregnancies. This included 16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets.

There are various sources from the time that seem to validate the almost-unbelievable story, such as a report by the Monastery of Nikolsk that was written to Moscow in 1782.

In 1783, The Gentleman's Magazine also ran a piece on Vassilyev that outlined the prolific peasant's show of fertility:

    "By his first wife:

    4 x 4 = 16
    7 x 3 = 21
    16 x 2 = 32
    ----------
    27 births 69 children

    By his second wife:
    6 x 2 = 12
    2 x 3 = 6
    ---------
    8 births 18 children

"In all, 35 births, 87 children, of which 84 are living and only three buried."
