On classifieds and online dating profiles, many women list GSOH (good sense of humor) as an important quality for their future partner and the researchers believe that this is the reason why.
Kristofor McCarty, the head of the study, gave advice to the Telegraph on the matter:
"Intelligence is a very attractive quality as a clever man should be more able to provide resources for his offspring.
But guys be warned: not just any gag will do. We discovered that the humour must be genuinely funny for the man to be judged as more intelligent."
Funnily enough, however, previous studies have indicated that humor itself is not an indication of intelligence.
