Dolly Parton Facts

Dolly Parton once entered anonymously into a "Dolly Parton lookalike contest", but lost to a drag queen.

Dolly Parton grew up in Sevier County, Tennessee. In November 2016, wildfires there took 14 lives and destroyed or damaged over 2,400 homes and buildings. Within 48 hours, she launched the My People Fund: $1,000 a month for six months, then $5,000 on the last check. Nearly 900 families were paid, almost $9 million in all. She died on August 25, 2026, at 80. The mountains never forgot who took care of them.

Dolly Parton wrote a secret song in 2015. She sealed it inside a time capsule at Dollywood. A CD player was built in so it could still play. It won't open until 2045. Her team joked she might not be around by then. She laughed and said she might make it to 99. On August 25, 2026, at 80, Dolly died. The song is still locked away, waiting.

Dolly Parton's father was the smartest man she ever knew. He never learned to read or write. In 1995 she started mailing a free book every month to every child in her Tennessee county. Kids began calling her the Book Lady. Today it sends more than 3 million free books a month and has mailed over 300 million. Dolly died on August 25, 2026, at 80. The books are still going out.

Dolly Parton was one of twelve kids in a dirt-poor family in Sevier County, Tennessee. In 1986 she partnered with a local theme park and renamed it Dollywood, saying she wanted to bring jobs home. It grew into one of the county's largest employers, with thousands of workers and 4 million visitors a year. She died on August 25, 2026, at 80. Dollywood opened the next morning anyway, just like she wanted.
