Recognizing the immense potential, McVicker made a pivotal decision. In 1956, the product was rebranded and introduced to the world as Play-Doh. It initially launched in three vibrant colors: red, yellow, and blue. This marked its official transformation from a cleaning aid to a children's creative toy.

The rebranded product quickly gained traction. Its popularity soared after being showcased at an educational convention and, crucially, through appearances on popular children's television shows like Captain Kangaroo.
