The Dog Who Led a Deputy Straight to His Injured Grandma

Deputy Devon Miller was driving slowly through a Destin, Florida neighborhood on the night of September 25, 2025, looking for a missing 86-year-old woman. Her husband had called the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office when she failed to return from walking the family dog - nearly an hour past her usual 10 to 15 minutes.

He Found Her First

Miller was still searching when her headlights lit up a dog standing alone in the middle of the road, leash trailing behind him. The dog's name was Eeyore - and he wasn't lost. He was waiting. When Miller grabbed his leash and said "bring me to your mommy," Eeyore did exactly that. He trotted ahead, leash taut, and led the deputy straight to where the woman lay on the sidewalk with a leg injury, alert but unable to get up or call for help.

What the Bodycam Captured

The entire sequence was recorded on Deputy Miller's body camera. The footage shows Eeyore moving with purpose through the dark, the deputy following, until they reach the woman on the ground. EMS arrived and treated her injuries. When the deputy told her that her dog had found help, the woman reached for him. "He wouldn't leave," she said. "He kept coming back to me." Then, looking at Eeyore: "You're such a good boy. Grandma loves you."

A Son's Dog, a Grandmother's Hero

Eeyore belongs to the woman's adult son - she was simply walking him that evening as grandmothers do. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office released the bodycam footage on October 7, 2025, and it was picked up by the Associated Press and broadcast outlets nationwide. Deputy Miller later described the moment: "He practically dragged me to her."

Four Legs and a Wagging Tail

The woman recovered from her injuries. The Sheriff's Office concluded its post with one line: "Sometimes heroes come with four legs and a wagging tail." Eeyore, for his part, received considerably more belly rubs than usual.
