When Barbara and Chad Soper of Rockford, Michigan welcomed their first daughter Chloe on August 8, 2008, they had no idea they were starting one of the most mathematically memorable family patterns in recent history. The first birth set the stage purely by chance. Chloe Corrin arrived exactly on her due date — August 8, 2008. Already a memorable birthday, but nothing suggesting what would come next.

When Barbara became pregnant again, the due date was September 20, 2009. However, she went into labor early and doctors decided to induce. Cameron Dane was born on September 9, 2009. Only then did the couple realize they had a pattern emerging.

For the third pregnancy, the original due date was November 4, 2010. But Barbara's physician recommended inducing labor early to prevent potential health complications. Given the remarkable pattern they'd already established, the choice of when to induce was obvious. Cearra joined her siblings on October 10, 2010.

The Real Odds

The widely reported "50 million to one" figure sounds astronomical, but statisticians who analyzed the case say it's somewhat misleading. That calculation assumes completely random birth dates with no constraints.

In reality, several factors make the odds less dramatic:

Women need at least 11 months between giving birth
Doctors can influence delivery dates through induction
Due dates already narrow the window of likely birth dates
The Sopers were actively trying to hit the third date

With more realistic assumptions, the odds work out to approximately 1 in 2,500 — still remarkable, but not quite as mind-boggling as initially reported.

A Family United by Numbers

Today, the three Soper children share an unusual bond. Their birthdays are easy to remember, always come in sequence, and make for great conversation starters. Chloe turned 17 on 08/08/2025, Cameron will be 16 on 09/09/2025, and Cearra will celebrate her 15th birthday on 10/10/2025.
