Hunger Facts

If you are cold you are more likely to be hungry because you use energy to keep warm.

Joe Burrow's 2019 Heisman speech stunned everyone. He choked up talking about hungry kids back home in Athens, Ohio. Six years later, his foundation helped build the fix. The Joe Burrow Foundation partnered with Hocking College to launch the 740 Rescue Kitchen. Now it feeds families across ten counties in southeast Ohio.

A Maryland hunter pulled over to help a woman load a deer into her trunk. A car had hit it, and she was taking it home because her kids were hungry. In 1997, he got two butchers to process deer donated by hunters for food banks. His program has since handed out more than 24 million servings of meat. Every deer season, hunters still drop off deer at its butchers.

In April 2020, Matt Pierson, a fifth-generation Montana rancher, phoned neighbors and asked them to donate cows they planned to sell. Within six days, 700 pounds of hamburger reached food banks. When butchers ran out of room, his nonprofit built a federally inspected plant of its own. More than 250,000 pounds have gone out since, and the donated meat still goes free to Montana food banks and schools.
