Actors Facts

Jeff Daniels grew up in Chelsea, Michigan. His grandfather once ran a car and bus garage there in the early 1900s. In 1989 the Dumb and Dumber star bought that garage and rebuilt it into a theatre that still seats 168. Then he handed the whole building to the nonprofit company he founded there. He still runs it, and he still writes and directs plays on that stage.

Jesse Eisenberg gave one of his kidneys to a stranger. He had wanted to donate for ten years. A doctor friend told him strangers could receive it too. He finally did it in December 2025, at a hospital in New York. He chose never to learn the stranger's name. "It just seemed like an obvious thing to do," he said.

Lisa Kudrow co-authored a medical study Before Friends premiered, she spent years working for her father, a headache doctor. In 1994 her name went on a peer-reviewed headache study. She also has a biology degree from Vassar.

Tommy Lee Jones has a USPA 2-goal handicap, an official rating for competitive polo players. He breeds his own polo ponies on his 3,000-acre ranch in San Saba County, Texas. He funds two full polo teams, six professional players and about 50 horses. In 2007, at age 60, he competed in the Stanford U.S. Open at Palm Beach.

Audrey Hepburn was a teenager in Nazi-occupied Netherlands. She secretly danced in ballet recitals to fund the Dutch resistance. The rooms stayed blacked out, but nobody clapped. Applause could bring German soldiers running, so audiences stayed silent. Hepburn also hid resistance notes inside her wooden shoes. That starving teenage courier grew up to become a beloved icon and a lifelong UNICEF ambassador.

Tim Curry played Pennywise, Wadsworth in Clue, Long John Silver, and the voice of Nigel Thornberry - four faces, one actor. At 27, he created Frank-N-Furter in a 63-seat London room in 1973. The film that followed has never left theaters - still the longest-running release ever. Curry died on August 25, 2026, at 80. This weekend, somewhere, the midnight show goes on.

Rita Wilson is best known as an actress, and as Tom Hanks's wife. She is also a real singer-songwriter, and released her sixth studio album this year. Sound of a Woman was recorded in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb. Her first record came out fourteen years ago. She played small clubs like City Winery this summer, and plays Napa in December. She is still the one singing every note of it.

Elijah Wood, Frodo himself, has spent more than a decade as a working DJ. He and his friend Zach Cowie play all-vinyl sets in small clubs, bringing crates of records from their own collections and never a laptop. At one sold-out show the crowd turned up in cloaks and pointed ears, and Wood opened with "We have no plan." They are still playing out of those crates.

Before he played Dracula, Saruman, and Count Dooku, Christopher Lee served as an RAF intelligence officer attached to Britain's Special Operations Executive - and spent the final months of the war hunting Nazi war criminals. He was fluent in five languages, sworn to secrecy for life, and once corrected Peter Jackson on how a stabbing actually sounds. The man who played 200 villains had hunted real ones.

Tom Cruise jumped from a helicopter with a burning parachute 16 times for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Each canopy was soaked in fuel and set alight at least 7,500 feet up. He cut it loose after about three seconds and opened a backup. He was 62, and Guinness made it a world record.

For over two decades, Bill Murray has operated with no agent, no manager, and no publicist. The only way to offer him a role is to call a 1-800 number and leave a voicemail - which he checks when he feels like it. Sofia Coppola spent five months doing exactly that before landing him for Lost in Translation. He missed Monsters Inc. because nobody got through in time.
